Regarding the excessive backfiring problem which goes
away after disconnecting the air pump...

I looked over my motor tonight but didn't find this
diverter valve thing. I'm looking for a valve, vacuum
operated, which diverts air from the air pump into the
exhaust to help with??? venting exhaust pressure???

(I have a weber DGAV carb and matching intake)

My air pump has a tube which loops around the rear of
the block and connects to the exhaust manifold on the
other side. I have what I would describe as a
"check-valve" in the line itself, near the air pump.

I see nothing in place to redirect unburnt fuel back
into the system (intake, etc) for cleaner burning. I
thought turbo chargers use unburned fuel/gases in the
exhaust and re-route to intake, resulting in increased
power.

Where should I look for this diverter valve? Or is
absent on my car's particular setup?
