So it WAS the alternator?  

Sounds as if you should ask the guy who tested it as good, to test it again.

Actually I know that many times alternators (and starters) can have
intermittant problems.   So don't be too hard on the guy.

Actually, to check output voltages you should have backprobed the
alternator connector with it plugged in.  To check for loose connections
you isolate (unplug) the wires and check continuity.

What is the amperage rating of that unit?   Was it an easy install, or did
the spacers make it mount flimsy?  (Not good long-term)
