Every so often the topic of proper folding and storage of the later
(Mk.3 and beyond) Spitfire top/hood appears on these lists, most recently
only a couple of weeks ago. Up until just a few minutes ago I had always
believed that the Triumph folks (factory, etc.) were pretty consistent in
their instructions for proper folding: unsnap all the snaps, carefully
pull out and fold over the fabric, etc., yadda, yadda.

Well, someone in the Owner's Manual division of Editorial apparently
forgot to talk to the folks in Advertising. Check out the picture at The
Amicale Spitfire web site.

<http://amicale.com/spitfire/indexe.htm>. Click on "Triumph documents"
from the front page, then on "Spitfire Mk3 1970". This will take you to
images from a 1970 French sales brochure for the Mk.3. Scroll down to the
6th image (with text beginning "Capote rabattue en un...") and check out
the image of the woman folding the top/hood whilst she remains inside the
car! (I don't read French, but the accompanying text undoubtedly says
something like "Do not attempt this yourself -- professional top folder at
work here -- your warranty will be voided should you attempt such a
manoeuver!" -OR- "Hey, c'mon, lighten up. What's the big deal? You'll
probably sell this car in a couple of years anyway. Who cares about a few
ripped seams and scratched windows? Like you'll ever put the top back up
anyway, right?")

Submitted for your approval.... :-)
