Mark, sounds to me like a long-ago typographical error. I don't recall
seeing any Spitfire commission numbers with a "leading zero". Odds are it
wouldn't take too much presuading (a pencil rubbing of the commission
number plate always helps) to have the typo corrected. OTOH, if it's NOT
the car of your dreams, then that won't be YOUR problem. :-)
Was there an overdrive gearbox in the car?
