There are only about three BASIC things that will cause a backfire, that is actual burning of the mixture in the intake tract. A really lean mixture can cause it, Incorrect timing of some type, be it misadjusted points (too small a gap) if not electronic or timing that is erratic or firing at the wrong time, or a burned otherwise wrong opening (sticking, bent?) intake valve allowing the hot mixture to continue burning in the intake manifold - something is igniting the fuel in your intake manifold - Barry Schwartz (San Diego) bschwart@pacbell.net |
