Spit with V8?

Hello peoples, this is my third and last attempt to get this message out
there.
I have a 74 Mk IV Spitfire, with a very tired 1296cc engine 4 sp gearbox no
o/d which has done 198 000 Km's.

A lot of people over here in New Zealand are telling me to implant the Rover
Alloy 3.5ltr V8. (Supposidly a common upgrade)
As I have never seen one or heard of anyone who has done this I would like
to hear some feedback before I attempt to do this mamouth task on my own.
