Hi,

Just to say I got a bit firther with the fule smell thing today.

The situation, the car when accelerating medium to hard will not pass 55mph,
it then hesitates and you get a realy strong smell of petrol. I took off
the in line fule filter that I used to convert pipe sizes, insted relying on
an intermediat size hose. (It took 1/2hr to put the thing on the fule pump
and a kettel full of boiling water) Removing the fule filter made little
difference.

Today I went down the motorist center and got two replacement needle valve
kits. I fitted the two valves, and this has made a big difference. The car
is quite happy doing 65mph, but ocasionly I still get a petrol smell.

Here is what I think, the float chaimbers on my car have vents which go into
a pipe, these are open to the atmosphere rather than any emmission controll
things. The old carbs did not have these, they had vents with a bit of
metal splash gard.

Do you recon that the problem left now is with petrol frothing or splashing
out of the vent?
