My original Mk-III had 1 2 3 3od 4 and 4od.  Sure looks like 6
selectable forward gears.

And for those who count 3od equivalent to 4, final drive ratios are as
follows and the ratios between gears show a reasonable progression.
Not quite as clean as a true close-ratio box, but much better than
many.  And 4th/3od is only 11% from (what I would consider ideal) 0.80

1    3.75 * 4.11 = 15.41
2nd/1st     2.16/3.75 = 0.58
2    2.16 * 4.11 = 8.88
3rd/2nd     1.40/2.16 = 0.66
3    1.40 * 4.11 = 5.75
3od/3rd     1.12/1.40 = 0.80
3od  1.12 * 4.11 = 4.60
4th/3od     1.00/1.12 = 0.89
4    1.00 * 4.11 = 4.11
4od/4th     0.80/1.00 = 0.80
4od  0.80 * 4.11 = 3.29
