I went ahead and replaced the main bearings in my 1500
yesterday with the engine in the car and the oil pan
dropped. The one exception being the front, upper shell
which proved impossible to remove. The thrust washers
were also replaced.
The car is now running very badly, accelerating weakly,
jerking and hunting at cruising speed, refusing to rev
over 3000 etc. I did do a quick, but admittedly not
thorough, check over of the usual tune-up issues and
found nothing amiss.
My first thought was that I messed something up that
would cause excessive friction in the crank. However
the engine idles relatively smoothly as low as 600 rpm
and the car can pushed fairly easily in fourth gear.
What have I done? Any thoughts? TIA!
