Hello all,

I've stayed away from this for a while, but I need to jump
in here. I have been looking for an Amphicar for several
years. Done some research on them, and actually gone for
a ride in one several years ago. (In fact, it was this ride
that got my wife very interested in them). Two years ago,
my wife and I were out putting around on the our lake, and
I looked up and noticed a funny looking boat moored on one
of the islands. I looked again and realized that that was no
boat, it was an Amphicar.

You all are right, the front wheels are used as the rudders.
They were not very good in any kind of waves, as they were
easily swamped. I have been told by owners, that they were
not very good boats, nor were they very good cars. Top speed
in the water was about 5 knots, and on land it was only a
little faster, about 55-60 mph.

I came very close to buying one in my price range about eight
years ago, it was located near Andy Mace. However, the owner
sold it the weekend that I found out about it. Nuts. Since
then, I have checked out a couple more, but unfortuately for
me the owners want the sun and the moon as well as an arm
and a leg for them. I keep looking though, and maybe one day...

Cheers,
