Hmmm, wonder if this is the same Spitfire written up years ago? VTR
reprinted an article about such a Spitfire, converted sometime in the
1980s as I recall. I should dig out the article again. I think I remember
that the lack of range was balanced out by rather more power than a
stock '77 Spitfire 1500 motor could muster.

Guess I'll try to look for this tonight. $4K doesn't seem too bad,
actually, for a "PC" Spitfire. :-)
