The range is only 3K. I've seen mine bounce peg to peg for long periods
of time. I got a replacement but haven't installed it yet. I've heard
that you can repair them by changing the capacitor(s) inside the unit
using equivalent value and type. The caps get leaky and that causes the
wide variation. There is nothing to clean so I doubt that will help.
