I too had a Spitfire that listed to the Driver side. The local specialist
told me that the spring was meant to re-centre. The problem over time was
that the spring would not re-centre and the forces exerted on the spring in
its' unnatural non-centred state would eventually cripple the spring to
cause a definite favourite side to list to (hence the left side vs. right
side phenomenon)
How to fix ?
He replaced the spring (he felt that re-arching or flipping the sping was
false economy), installed an adjuster plate (sorry no details as yet) and a
set of SPAX shocks. I had the car in a month after this operation and he
tweaked the spring slightly. So far so good, the car is level and does not
list.
