Can't give specifics about compressed and extended dimensions, but I have
KYB gas on my Spit.  I used to sell them in the early 80's.  They are a
direct replacement.  They're O.K., much better (firmer damping) than
stock.  This summer I bought a parts car with SPAX adjustables, and I
really like the suspension on it (Nothing technical, seat of the pants
thing).  It can't be driven anymore though due to green oil after DPO
rebuild.
