My car has one of the same. It's a seald unit, the prop(drive)shaft goes into a cup, there is a rubber bood between the wall of the cup and the propshaft, half an inch in. The cup has a eliptical sectioned ring round the middle this seems to be sacraficial because if anythings goind to hit the tunnel that will.
