It would appear that the thrust washer on my newly acquired 1980
Spitfire decided to take a nap in the oil pan. The crankshaft then
started eating away at the bearing housing, and the rest, like my
engine, is history.
The block can be saved if I decide to have it re-metaled. I work as a
machinist and it has been my experience that even the best spray welds
don't always hold, so I would rather not go that route.
The crank may be salvageable, but the shoulder where it made contact
with the washer is well worn. The camshaft is badly scared, and needs
replacing.
The head is still good, so all I need is a rebuilt or rebuildable short
block. Does anyone on the list know where I might find one? I live in
Ontario, Canada, about an hour west of Toronto.
Thanks!
Roger
