Whoever is telling you that does NOT know about Spitfires.  The axle shafts
are the same length, for either side.  There is no right or left one.  They
carry the same part number.  The only difference in length was for MK4's
and earlier (1972 and earlier)  ALL 73 and later use the same shaft/flange
combination.  All 1971 and 1972's use the MK3 shaft (1 inch shorter) with
the later, larger 1500 flange, while all Spitfires from the MK3 and earlier
use the shorter shaft with the smaller MK3 flange-need any other info let
me know-
