Doug,
I don't want to turn this in to any sort of flame contest, but according
to John Thomason's book, Triumph Spitfire and GT6, A Guide to
Originality," the Spoiler was mounted to Later Model MkIII GT6's and Was
also installed on some later MkIV Spitfires as well. The reasoning was
to keep the Front end down at higher speeds, but I bet there were also
some cost savings built in there somewhere too.
