I'll give you a break-(sorry, I couldn't resist, since I was herding
solenoids a little while back)
I used the brakes from a MK2 GT6, uprights and all, with semi-metallic
pads. In the rear, same story, stock shoes, but I have the uprights and
lower wishbone setup also. You can use any front setup (you will need
everything from the uprights out) from a GT6 for fronts, but without the
wishbone rotoflex rear, you need the rears (backing plate out) from an
early MK1 GT or better yet, a self adjusting set from the swing spring MK3
GT6. All this is basically bolt on. You can use the spitfire (dual)
master, but it has a slightly smaller rear piston so the bias will be
slightly more to the rear than if you use the GT6 master. I don't remember
the original brakes being all that soft. If everything is up to snuff,
then you should have a good hard pedal, with very little travel, and
especially with stock tires/rims be able to lock em up with relatively
little effort. I converted over because of the increased power and figured
a little extra braking would be a good idea-
