Greeting Fellow SHO Fans
I recently did some suspension upgrades in my 1994 MTX SHO. It was an
interesting journey especially when I sheared the the head off the first pinch
bolt. If you ever do this I would strongly recommend heating the knuckle
before attempting removal! This will save you a lot of aggravation.
I installed Eibach springs, new KYB boots, KYB strut mounts, and Koni inserts.
I have found this upgrade to dramatically improve the ride control of the car
and except for the problem below am pleased.
I found when I installed the Koni inserts into the old strut tower there was a
surprising gap between the old and new part. This was due to the diameter of
the new koni being smaller then the diameter of the original strut. I put it
together with the rubber boot supplied over the old strut and around the koni.
This left the gap inside but sealed it from the elements.
I am commenting on this because I now hear a rattling sound from one side of
the car in particular and am wondering it this is due to that gap. It is hear
especially while braking and on a bumpy surface. Has anyone had this happen?
Everything appears to be tight top to bottom from my upgrade. The only think
I can think of is this gap and the old strut slapping against the outer portion
of the koni. I am wishing I had either filled the gap with silicone and let it
cure or put in some kind of rubber material to fill it.
Information would be appreciated if this a possibility or another possible
cause.
