Pete:
A couple of thoughts. I do a good bit of A/C work and recommend to ask the
following questions.
Was the evaporator AND condenser power flushed? More then once? What did the
fluid look like. Yes, they need to capture the flush material and LOOK at
it. Otherwise how do you know when to stop and when the component is clean?
Was the Orifice tube replaced? What did the old one look like?
If they are not doing the two things above your chance of a lasting repair
is very doubtful.
Yes, all the compressors I install new or rebuilt come with a new clutch
assembly BUT to save money who knows? That is a good question to ask too! I
never buy A/C compressors from the dealer so don't know what comes with
these units.
You did not mention any noise symptoms from the compressor? Maybe they are
all leaking at the shaft seal? It is mandatory to fill the compressor with
the correct PAG oil and then set the compressor, clutch end down, for at
lest 30 minutes prior to installation. This insures the shaft seal is well
lubricated before it is run. If you don't, you have a chance of that seal
being put into use unlubricated.
