When I had my '86 CJ-7 back in the late 80s/90s I would get the "Jeep wave"
from EVERY CJ driver I passed.
It was kind of hit or miss when the square-headlight XJ Wranglers drivers hit
the road - some people would wave, others didn't have a clue. The "slightly"
better riding & more "car-like" interior (i.e. padded dashboard and contoured
intrument panel) appealed to a broader range of car buyers.
When the coil-sprung TJs appeared in the late 90s with their vastly improved
ride and super car-like interior - it attracted an entirely different kind of
car buyer. Needless to say, I NEVER got a wave from any of those drivers.
