Just had another thought. Depending on how long the stud is, it may be simpler 
to cut off the damaged end with a dremel and an abrasive wheel. A rule of thumb 
Iâ??ve used for years (not sure where I got it from - maybe one of my undergrad 
profs?) is that you want at least one diameter of the fastener above the nut, 
once itâ??s fully assembled.
