Scott, I have not done anything with Windows 8, but I believe earlier versions had another way to activate by phone. If that is still possible, and the version you have/had on that machine is a valid candidate for upgrade, then you would just give them the info from the sticker and they would give you a way to activate. I believe the original intent was to provide a way to activate without internet access.
