They can (AGM is lead-acid, just with the acid held in a fiberglass mat);
but it's a much less common failure mode. As Doug said, they usually fail
by loss of electrolyte and no charger can fix that. Wet lead-acid cells
(like conventional car batteries) generally have a surplus of electrolyte
instead of just barely enough, so they are less sensitive to loss.
