My guess is the ice was either frozen to the bottom of the glass or perhaps 
stuck there by something akin to surface tension.

I know I have seen ice stay at the bottom of a glass after the drink has 
been drunk. Tipping the glass all the way over won't get that piece of ice 
to slide off the bottom and down the side even though it moves all around 
the bottom of the glass.

It sure is good to know we've solved all the world's problems and this is 
the only one left to ponder...!
