Try pushing up on the arm the pull rope is attached to. I've seen a
couple that locked open until you push it back up.

I'll try that--I've been cycling the opener--the 'carriage' (the part
attached to the chain on the track) just goes through the 'trolley' (the
part attached, ultimately, to the door). It's like it's locked 'open',
but for the life of me I can't figure out how to get it to 'close'.

Those carriages have a 'locked open' position which is engages by
pulling
down and back on the core. To engage pull down and forward run the door
a
cycle and it will lock on to the trolley.
