How about just using a 57 degree angle form to verify the grind you put on
the drill point using a grinding wheel, i.e., doing it the old fashioned
way? It takes a little practice, but it's certainly not hard.

Subject: Re: drill doctor
I bought the top of the line version a few months ago when it was on sale.
It does a fantastic job and with the split point option you can sharpen a
drill
down to the last bit of flute if need be. If you have a lot of drills it's
worth it in my opinion. If you've just a handfull of multipupose bits it
may
be cost effective to buy new ones. Steve
Anyone using a drill doctor, and have any comments on effectiveness? A guy
at work says he has used one and it works great to sharpen dull bits. I
would
think that it might easily go thru the heat treat layer, but maybe it
doesn't
for one sharpening. The bits I get these days seem to be pretty low
quality.
Being able to sharpen them and get more life out of them would be nice.
Thanks for any comments.
