My tips specify the recommended pressure for fuel/oxygen and metal thickness.
The class I took started us with 16 gauge steel.
Two pieces, one flat, one vertical, forming an inverted "T"
and weld was flat. Next step was to use the same material, placed on end,
and run a vertical weld.
The guys who were being trained through various employment
programs had to make a small 6-sided tank. Each of the six
panels were welded with a different process. Like maybe ah....
stick, gas, mig, innershield, tig, and ???
The testing was always a fun event. The tank had a
Schrader valve (tubeless tire step) which was pumped
full of water with a grease gun fitted with a pressure gauge.
When a tank failed before the specified pressure, water
would spray everyone watching the test and the poorest
joint would become obvious. The student would go back
and concentrate on the particular process that failed.
