The only real way is with what they call a dummy load. You'll need to
know how much power (watts) the generator is capable of. Then find
a number of electrical devices, like hair dryers, electric stove, etc.
that you can run from the generator and whos load equals the normal
load rating for the generator.
In comercial applications they make special equipment that is basically
a high power resistor usually in an oil bath to disipate the heat. They
connect as many of these devices as is required to get to the rating of
the generator.
