Just go buy a new machine. Stick the old disk in the new one, copy
it's contents onto the new machine, then make a full set of backups.
(Make a couple of the family photos. Keep one, give one to a relative
or friend, and stick another someplace off site, like your desk at
work, or a bank safety deposit box, if you've got one.) Then throw
the old parts away. It would probably be possible to get the old
machine fixed, but if you've got to get someone to do the work for
you, it won't be any cheaper. And, of course, start making backups on
a regular basis.
