Don't even bother. If you don't already, you will soon have a laptop
or other portable device. For that reason, plus it's a lot easier, go
wireless.
Buy a wireless access point for $75 at MicroCenter, Fry's or whatever
electronics shop you have in your neighborhood, and a wireless adapter for
each computer ( $20+ ). Hook 'em up and you're done. No drilling holes
in walls or fishing cables.
Do make sure you pay attention to what OSes are supported by whatever
you buy, especially if you have older computers. I had to search a bit to
find equipment that would work with the old machines around here, but
the Linksys adapter I bought does.
