My input: I've had a few different 900 and 49mhz phones over the years and
then bought a "good" 2.4GHZ base station/multiple handset one from Siemen's,
their Gigaset. It was great except for the minor problem that the phones
were horrible junk - the keypads failed on 4 of the 5 we had. Its best
feature was that they took two standard AA batteries, so we could toss the
nicads that they came with and put in nimh ones.
This led to our present phone: the Panasonic equivalent (KX-TG2740). 2
lines, 2.4GHz, up to 8 handsets (we have 5 scattered around the house and an
outbuilding). Everything about it is great, including range and clarity,
except for the batteries. They don't seem to hold a charge. Replaced them
all a few months ago with mixed success - three work fine and two are
marginal, but we never seem to remember which are the bad ones until we're
in the middle of a call. Next step is to open up a battery pack and replace
the cells with nimh or something else.
Happy hunting.
