There is no hard and fast rule. I don't save batteries that test lower then their "advertised" voltage. That is, less than 9V for a 9V battery, or less than 1.5V for most everything else. For some uses like smoke detectors, I will only use new fresh batteries. For others, like kids toys that are likely to be accidentally left on, I'm much less concerned. If the robots eyes only blink for 4 hours instead of 8, I can live with that! |
