  Me too...

Since my first e-mail I have talked with the Safety-Kleen guy and also
gotten a catalog, their water (Aqueous) cleaners are quite a bit more
expensive. They also have Ultrasonic cleaners which will be even more
expensive but since my father-in-law is paying part of the purchase costs
and yearly maintenance it is worth looking into some non-nasty way of
cleaning my car parts and getting the right tool the first time.

So far this what I know...the petroleum based Safety-Kleen works really
well and stinks (some people dont mind the smell but i do) it is really
rough on your hands if you dont wear gloves. I spoke with a local garage
(based on someone on this lists recommendation that I ask the sales guy for
a reference, good idea ) that switched to water based cleaners a few months
ago, they say it works even better than the petroleum based solvent, it
really cleans much faster and better. Smells less stinky and is easier on
the hands even though gloves are still recommended, the negative is that it
gets dirty faster supposedly because it cleans so much better. The
salesman says the water based stuff holds %30 less oil/crud in solution
then the petroleum so it does have to be cleaned more often but for home
use should still last a year with no problems.

Cost per year for petroleum is $125 and $159 for the water based stuff,
that is for them to come out, clean the tank (or replace I am not sure) of
all the sludge and old solvent, change the filters on the solvent
pump. Like I said, my father-in-law is picking up that cost so I don't
care if super agitene is cheaper or not or if it works as well, he will pay
for Safety-Kleen but he wont pay for "the time wasters crap" as he puts it.

  Mike

p.s. someone asked what it takes to get dad-in-law to pay for garage
tools/toys, its easy, get married and stay married to his daughter for 26
years and treat him and his daughter better than his 2 sons do. He also
getting up in the years and hoping that I will pick up his car maintenance
someday (yes, I will)
