That's a very good point Randall that I sometimes think we
forget. Most of us can't afford really high quality models
for all tools we want to own. Therefore we compromise and
find that most lower priced, lower quality tools actually
do an adequate job.

I was working for Black and Decker in England many moons
ago (about 400 moons ago) at just the time they went on a
marketing campaign to persuade tradesmen to buy their hobby
drills instead of their industrial quality ones. Tradesmen
found that most of the time they lasted as long, did the
same job, were lighter to handle therefore less tiring,
cost them less time and less money to just buy a
replacement when necessary rather than find a repair shop
and wait and pay for repairs, started buying several drills
maybe of different sizes or just spares or duplicates,
could buy them almost anywhere rather than have to travel
to specialist stores, and didn't need to worry about loss
or theft nearly as much. B&D for their part found their
sales were up, warranty was down and customer relations got
fewer complaints. Smart Move.

So if our $19 widgets only last 29 moons we shouldn't
complain too much!
