chevy 6.5 L diesel question(s)

We have a chance to pick up a late 90s Chevy turbo diesel pickup 
for a good price.  The problem is its a manual transmission.  Does 
anyone know if a 700R4 transmission would bolt up to the diesel 
engine?  I know the flywheel needs to be changed, but don't have a 
clue about the rest of it.  

Plans are to put a chevy diesel engine in our 1953 1-ton panel truck 
with a 700R4 transmission behind it.  We have the tranny already.
