Musty smell

Is there a subject that is off topic on this forum?
I have a sofa acquired from my mother in law that I would like to put in
my basement for mostly sentimental reasons.
And I would like to stay married. 
The problem is The musty smell. Fabreeze is an option but I thought if
you guys are this good at problem solving, your wives are at least that
good.
