John, by 'stamped wood finish' are you referring the type that are essentially
fancy hollow-core doors? (vs. solid wood - styles, rails, & raised panels?)
I'd be leery of apply too heavy a coat of paint on solid wood, raised panel
doors. The thick paint tends to trap the panels into the frames. Subsequent
expansion/shrinking can split the rails or panels.
The 'stamped wood' doors would not have this as an issue. I'd go ahead and thin
the paint for spraying and apply a few, thin coats. I've done this many times
with 'raised panel' steel doors using enamel paint via spray (not airless,
though).
