I hope you get good answers from pro welders but: In my meager experience with a little Century 110 volt short-circuit mig welder, there is NO tolerence for corrosion on the wire and it will hang and, if I have the tension roller set too tight, it will construct a marvelous birds-nest . . you didn't mention that part. I'd try to clean up 10 feet of the wire and try again . . .
