Great looking old machine. Reminds me of one I use at work, only mine has a
flat belt drive.
The segmented (Velo) style belt has it's advantages, to adjust the length,
just take out a link (like a chain). They are still available, though the
connector has changed a bit. Very useful in a application where the center
distance can vary a lot. (like if you want to change the speed of the
spindle by quite a bit.

The lathe in particular is kinda neat. Its a South Bend 9" Workshop C
model. The serial number is 86343, and the south bend website says this
