As for silicone, I recently had to clean some off from around a couple of
UPVC window frames. I could scrape most off with a sharp scraper (the type
that take a Stanley knife blade). The remainder I removed with a solvent
called Silicone Eater (I am in the UK, but you might be able to find
something similar).
