The pump won't freeze. The water in the pipe should stay there if the check
valve down in the well still works.
Does the pump house have any insulation? I have seen well insulated sheds kept
above freezing with just a 40-60 watt bulb. 'Course having it all on a slab
might make that a bit tough. On the other hand, laying some of that 2"
Styrofoam board on the slab might even insulate the interior air space from the
slab.
No experience with heat tape. Could its (rumored) thermostat be adapted to
switch the light as well?
Do you have a pond you want to fill :):):) in the occasional freezes we have
here, I have occasionally left the water on a trickle to keep the pipes from
freezing.
