Thanks for all the replies. Lots of good info. Looks like the commercial units
designed to do this task are running around ~$1,000 - $1500 new. Didn't see
any used with a quick scan of ebay.
Don't know why I didn't think of the front mounted hitch on the truck. On my
previous trucks I had front mounted receivers for maneuvering the boat trailer
down the ramp, and using a bike rack up front. Once the boats were gone and I
got a late model truck I just never bothered to put one on again. I probably
summarily dismissed it thinking a front mounted hitch on the new truck could
not handle the tongue weight of these trailers. I need to revisit this.
I think I may look further into the lawn tractor idea as well. I have a ~12hp
riding lawnmower of some brand or another. Of course that means I'd have to do
repair and maintenance to it and find out why it won't start anymore. ;^)
Wouldn't be surprised if it had enough power to move a rolling load on level
ground like this. Tongue weight may be an issue though. I have a feeling if I
put a hitch on the back end it may pull the front tires off the ground when
the trailer is lowered onto it. On the other hand if I fab up a mount for a
front hitch on the lawnmower. It may balance out with my big butt in the
seat.
Thanks
Wayne
