Engine out of TR6 -- how to mount it on the stand?

I'm hoping everybody is entitled to one stupid question
and one cross post.

As we speak, I have the engine out of my TR6, dangling
from the hoist and tentatively bolted into an engine
stand. Here lies my question -- in the past, I always
have done engines on benches. I am trying to get more
enlightened in my old age and bought a 1,000 lb engine
stand -- nothing fancy.

There are four adjustable arms on the pivot plate of
the engine stand, each with a bolt hole. I put 5/16"
(head size) bolts through them into the transmission
mounts, but they only thread in about 3/8" (these are
the bolt holes at the back of the engine where the
transmission attaches, and the threaded hole is quite
shallow).

Here is my fear -- it looks to me like the 400 lb
engine will be placing a lot of stress on those shallow
bolt holes. I guess what I am asking is how do you
attach an engine to one of these engine stands? Am I
approaching this right or am I off base here?

The last thing I need is to break the engine casting
around these shallow holes (and probably drop the
engine in the process).

If there is anybody out there who has mounted a TR6
engine in one of these stands, I would love to hear
back from you.

I will leave the engine in the hoist until I hear
something.

Again, sorry for the ignorant cross post, but I have
the engine dangling in my driveway....
