1. Less loss of volume through the thing. It takes no
energy to push air through air vs air through a
liquid.
2. Larger surface area for absorption. The "fog" has
much more contact than the big bubbles made in a tank.
3. Smaller size per efficiency, resulting from the two
above facts.
It is also better to just run the air past a running
wall of water than to try and bubble it through a
tank. Pretty much for all the same reasons. You may
have seen an old paint booth that used this technique.
It is very like the discussion of oil bath cleaners.
The more contained scrubber boxes are all the rage
now. Usually they are packed with wiffle ball type
things to enhance the performance with large wetted
surface effects. Kind of a mix of "spray" and "pass
over" technologies to make up some terribly technical
terms. 8-) I have never seen nor heard of an oil spray
scrubber but what the heck, it wouldn't be too big or difficult....
