Adding air to a Dodge van

I have an '89 Dodge Ram 250 van with a 318 V8.  It did not come with air
conditioning but I would like to add it.  Is salvage yard for the whole
system the best way to go?  What problems do I need to keep in mind, etc?
How hard will it be to install and get working correctly?
