I read through the other responses but am replying here.

Cross drilling is basically for weight savings, but doesn't make much of a
difference on a street or even race car, motorcycle it is a different story,
that is why most of the newer sport bikes have went that way. Yes there are
some gas venting stories but most modern pads don't give of gases anymore.
There is also additional pad wear and the holes are all stress points
waiting to crack.

Slotted good grooves that clean the pad but not much else. Are not as prone
to crack as drilled.

Back in my Honda days (5 or so yrs ago) I ran cross drilled because of the
performance gain. And they looked cool. Well they never made me stop any
quicker and I bought rotors often. ( I was using a decent brand name, not
some auto pasts quicken $1.95 special drilled rotor) I was running Carbo
Tech Pads. The pads did make a huge difference.

Now on my Miata today I have the OEM rotors with EBC green stuff pads, on
the front Power Slot slotted rotors with EBC green stuff pads. This is the
best stopping street car I have ever driven. Have never had a problem with
warping rotors either. I then bought the EBC pads for my old Concorde LXi
what a difference, on new OEM rotors, front only. Have a set on the wife's
Wrangler might stop quicker than the Miata, if I had the balls and rear
discs. I have yet to look for a set for my new Van but if I can find
them.....

In conclusion I am not sure how much the rotor makes a difference, but if
you are doing a race car (if rules allow), or do hard street driving I would
lean to slotted at least on the fronts. But the pad as the others have told
you is the key I love the EBC (green stuff, street, other grades if racing).
The Carbo Tech were not bad but that was few yrs ago. I have driven on
Porterfields and can say they are worth the money also. I think the
Performance Friction pads aren't to bad if you buy real PF pads, the stuff
at AutoZone is not quite the same ( I am down the street from PTG (American
Race team that ran the BMW M3 V8 last year) so I did have to say something
nice about them as PF is one of their sponsors)

Now to sum up like said before buy the pads with new rotors. Rotors don't
cost that much and remember the brakes are the second most import system on
your car. (and if you must have them turned have it done on the car, as most
modern manufactures state, but most shops don't do) . If that doesn't
satisfy you try the slotted.

PS the steering is the most important, at least that way I can pick out what
I am going to hit.
