I'd start by checking the ignitor. Hard to be sure without a manual, but
they will usually try to light the gas even when there's no gas there. On
my gas dryer (which is considerably older than yours), the ignitor is a
resistance element that gets hot. There is a thermocouple that runs off
that heat, and opens the gas valve. Thermocouples get old and weak, if your
dryer has one, that might be the problem. If that is the problem, check to
be sure that the flame does not actually touch the thermocouple, since that
will shorten it's life (and likely explain why yours has failed already).
