You should be able to do this with your pathfinder.  Just don't try to
do it at 75MPH.  A trans cooler would be a good idea and the equalizer
hitch would be worth its weight in gold.  The hitch is not a big deal. 
It slides into the 2" receiver already on the truck and has two spring
bars that attach to the trailer to distribute the load evenly between
the front and rear of the tow vehicle.  Check the draw tite (sp?) site
for pictures.  A good hitch shop can take care of it all for you.
